Ltd., a prominent chemical manufacturer, has fallen victim to a sophisticated ransomware attack. The incident, which the company confirmed on December 27, 2024, involved the encryption of electronic data on some of its servers, with the ransomware group Hunters International claiming responsibility. The attack, which took place on December 22, 2024, saw the hackers allegedly exfiltrating a staggering 761.8 GB of data, comprising 476,342 files.

Named the RockYou2024 database, this compilation is now one of the largest publicly disclosed leaks of personal credentials ever. What Happened? Hacker Group: 'ObamaCare' posted a database with almost 10 billion unique passwords on BreachForums. Data Source: The data includes passwords from 4,000 major breaches over the past two decades. Risk: This massive leak heightens the threat of credential stuffing attacks, where hackers use these stolen passwords to gain unauthorised access to various online accounts. Why It Matters: Brute Force Attacks: The leaked passwords enable hackers to perform brute-force attacks, targeting anything from online services to industrial systems. Credential Stuffing: Attackers can exploit these passwords to access accounts, leading to potential data breaches, financial fraud, and identity theft.
